About our Group
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is the largest single conservation charity in Europe with over 1,040,000 members whose aim is to achieve a healthy environment, rich in birds and other wildlife. The RSPB is part of the global partnership of bird and habitat conservation organisations called BirdLife International.
The North Ayrshire RSPB Local Group has been in existence since 1976 and is one of a network of Groups spread around the country. The committee organises a varied programme of monthly indoor meetings and outdoor field trips. Ocassional weekend trips to further afield destinations such as the Farne Islands, Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve, Speyside and Islay are also organised. Volunteers from the group are aso actively involved in "Showing People Seabirds" on board the Ardrossan - Brodick CalMac ferry during the summer months.
Membership of the North Ayrshire RSPB Local Group is open to all RSPB/Wildlife Explorers Members. A yearly subscription of £6.00 (£9.00 family) enables the committee to organise the comprehensive programme of indoor meetings and field trips shown overleaf. A regular newsletter is also produced to keep you in touch with current local events. Our meetings are open to all and are generally free of charge. We are also available to give illustrated talks to local community groups.

Membership allows free admission
to over 170 reserves of which more than 40 are in Scotland. A quarterly
colour magazine, "Birds", which contains a Scottish Newsletter
is also sent to all members.Sixteen year olds or under are encouraged to join the RSPB Wildlife Explorers. This is the junior branch of the RSPB and has a national membership of over 100,000. Under eights receive a bi-monthly magazine Wild Times whilst Bird Life is sent to all members after their eighth birthday. Scottish members also receive the Osprey Newsletter. RSPB Pheonix is also available for teenagers.
